Hi everyone! My name is Delphine Legendarme and I will be teaching the young children up to age 3 at Minami-Kashiwa on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I am 25 years old and am from Marseille in south of France. I also used to live in Italy and London. I speak French, Italian, English and little Japanese. I’ve been living in Japan for almost six months.
I love Japanese culture and food. I especially like Japanese movies and mangas（マンガ）. I am a big fan of Naruto (ナルト) and I watched all Takeshi Kitano’s movies.
I love to hike around Tokyo. Nature and landscapes in Japan are so beautiful. We are going to have a lot of fun together and I am looking forward to seeing all the little dolphins! Thank you.

みなさん、こんにちは。南柏校の火、水、木曜日の親子クラスを担当するデルフィンです。
私は25歳で南フランスのマルセイユから来ました。イタリアやイギリスにも住んだことがありますので、フランス語の他に、イタリア語と英語を話します。日本に来て約半年が経ったところですから、日本語は少しだけわかります。
私は日本の文化や食べ物が好きですが、特に映画とマンガが大好きです。
「ナルト」というマンガの大ファンですし、北野武監督の映画も全て見ました。
東京周辺を歩くことも好きで日本の自然や風景はとてもきれいだなと思います。
一緒にレッスンを楽しみましょうね。かわいいドルフィンキッズに会える事を心から楽しみにしています。

音楽の勉強のためにアメリカに6年間留学していました。ピアノが大好きです。英語は音楽と同様に自分の気持ちを伝える手段として身につけました。子どもたちに英語を通してたくさんのことを経験して欲しいと願っています。そしてそのお手伝いができるよう努めていきたいです。レッスンを毎週楽しみにしてもらえるような明るい教室作りを目指して頑張ります。
 

オーストラリア出身のジョージー先生はお料理が大好き。オーストラリア料理ってどんなお料理が早速教えてもらいましょう！

オーストラリアに育って良かった事のひとつは、オーストラリアが色々な人が住む多文化社会だということです。世界中の違う国の文化に毎日触れ合うことができるのです。高校時代のクラスには、ちょっと名前を挙げるだけでも、中国人、韓国人、日本人、インドネシア人、ペルシア人の生徒がいました。

東南アジアの国々のすぐ下に位置するオーストラリアは、実質的にアジア圏として位置づけることができるかもしれません。ですから、私たちはとっても興味深くてバラエティに富んだ、世界各国のたくさんの美味しい料理を食べる機会に恵まれているのです。

日本に来てからは、「オーストラリア人は何を食べますか？」とか「オーストラリア名物の食べ物は？」とよく聞かれます。そう聞かれて、一生懸命考えるのですが結局は「オージービーフ」と答えます。

日本では寿司や刺身やすき焼きが、イタリアではピザやパスタ、インドでは香辛料の効いたカレーが世界中でそれぞれの国の食べものとしてよく知られていますが、同じぐらい有名で「これぞオーストラリア！」といえるような料理はオーストラリアにはないように思います。

オーストラリアでは冬の寒い時期、多くの家庭ではイギリスから伝わったローストラムやローストビーフを食べます。夏は外に出てバーベキューをし、ビーフステーキやチキン、魚と一緒に新鮮な野菜をたくさん食べます。ちなみにオーストラリア人はカンガルーやわにの肉は食べません！

オーストラリアの人々は一般的に屋外で時間を過ごすことが好きなので、暖かい季節には頻繁にバーベキューをします。

でも、私の家族はちょっと変わっているかもしれません。毎晩アジア風の料理を食べるからです。1週間のメニューは、手巻き寿司の夜もあれば、翌日はインドカレー、また、インドネシア風チャーハン（ナシゴレン）、ベトナム風スープなどなど。もちろん、合間にピザやパスタが入る事もあります。
特に私はいろいろな料理にチャレンジして作ってみることが好きなので、家のキッチンには世界中のいろいろな地域の料理の本をたくさん置いています。

日本に来てからオーストラリアと日本の違いとして気づいたことは、日本の人々はオーストラリア人に比べて、よく外食をするということです。日本にはたくさんの素敵なレストランが選り取り見取りで、そのほとんどが、手ごろな値段でとてもおいしいのです！

オーストラリアのレストランは値段が高いため、外食をするかわりに家で料理をして食事を取ることが一般的です。そして更に、オーストラリアにはバラエティに富んだ食材（肉、野菜、果物など）があるので、特に私はお料理好きになったのだと思います。オーストラリアにはたくさんの「アジアン・スーパーマーケット」があり、そこでは変わったおもしろいアジア中の調味料や食材があります。私はよくそこに行って何時間も通路を行ったり来たりしながら、タイ、日本、マレーシアや中国の料理を研究しています。

あっ、もちろん、オーストラリアにも有名な食べ物がありました！オーストラリア人はみんなそれを食べることが大好きです。そして、それはとても健康的なものですが、外国の人がそれを試して「おいしい！」と言うのを聞くと驚いてしまうぐらい、オーストラリア国外ではあまり親しまれていません。そういう点で日本の「納豆」のような食べ物です。

その食べ物は「ベジマイト」と言います。黒いペースト状の発酵食品で、味は醤油に似てとてもしょっぱいですが、ビタミンなどの栄養素が豊富に含まれています。ほとんどのオーストラリア人は朝食のトーストにジャムのようにぬって食べます。

　　そういうわけで、みなさんがオーストラリアに訪ねる機会があったら、世界中からのいろいろな料理を楽しむことができるでしょう！でも、まずはベジマイトトーストを試してみてくださいね！

One of the great benefits of growing up in Australia, is the fact that it is such a multi-cultural society. I am exposed to different cultures from all over the world on a daily basis. In my high school days, my class consisted of children from China, Korea, Japan, Indonesia and Persia, just to name a few.

Furthermore, as Australia sits just under many South-East Asian countries, we could actually be considered an Asian country ourselves.　Therefore, we have the opportunity to eat so many interesting, diverse and delicious foods from around the world!

People often ask me in Japan, ‘What do Australians eat?’ or ‘What is the famous food from Australia?’ My answer usually results in a long pause followed by, ‘Aussie Beef?’. In Japan, foods such as sushi, sashimi and sukiyaki are very well-known, Italy is world famous for pizza and pasta, India for spicy curry, but I think there are no original food dishes specifically from Australia.

In winter time, many families eat foods that originate from England, like roast lamb or roast beef and in summer, we will often have barbeques outside, eating steak, sausages, chicken, fish and many kinds of salads. And no, we never eat kangaroo or crocodile meat! Australians love being outside, so the custom of barbequing happens on a very frequent basis.

I think my family is a little unusual, as we eat Asian-inspired food most nights of the week. Our weekly menu will often consist of te-maki zushi one night, Indian curry the next, Thai noodle dishes, Indonesian fried rice, Vietnamese soups and so on, of course with the occasional pizza or pasta thrown in every now and then. I especially love to experiment with cooking, so in my family kitchen, I have numerous recipes books from a number of different regions in the world.

One of the differences I have noticed between my country and Japan throughout my experience here, is that people more often than not, go out for dinner or lunch. There are so many wonderful restaurants to choose from, and mostly are very affordable and taste great!

 

アメリカ人の僕は、数年前に来日して以来、健康的な食生活することを大きな目標にしてきました。アメリカでも同じ目標を持って生活していましたが、健康的な食生活をするには、日本に住んでいる方が、より達成しやすいことがわかったのです。

僕が子どもの頃、母はよく冷凍の食材を利用して食事を作っていました。どうしてかというと、アメリカの家庭では、月に１・２回大きなスーパーマーケットに行って、一度に大量の食材を購入し、そのほとんどを冷凍保存するからです。一方、日本では、スーパーマーケットに行くたびに驚くのですが、その日に使う分だけの新鮮な食材を少しだけ買っている人をよく見かけます。日本に住むようになってからは、自炊しなければならなくなったのですが、日本では、その日に使う分だけの新鮮な食材を買うために近くのスーパーマーケットに行くのがとても簡単です。アメリカのスーパーマーケットは巨大で、日本のように住宅地に隣接しているわけではないので、食材を買うにはいつも車で出かけなければなりません。ですから、アメリカ人は、なるべくスーパーマーケットに行く回数を少なくするためにまとめ買いをします。

高校生になり、はじめて自分で自由に昼食を買えるようになった頃は、健康的な食べ物は全く選んでいませんでした。「サラダかピザのどちらにする？」と言われるといつもピザを選んでいたのです。高校3年生になると、校外に出て昼食をとることも許されたので、安くておいしいマクドナルドやバーガーキングによく通っていました。このようなファーストフード店では、年１回特別なチャリティーイベントが行われ、その時に無料サービス券をもらえるので、それに釣られてつい足が向いていたのも事実です。チャリティーに参加しているさまざまなお店やレストランが販売するチャリティー用の特別カードには、１年間、何度でも使えるクーポン券のようなものが付いていました。たとえば、マクドナルドでは、ランチセットを買うとそのランチセットの中のハンバーガーがもう１個無料でついてくるというカードを売っていました。当時の僕の大好物は、ビッグマックのセットにさらにもう１個無料のビッグマックをつけたランチ。つまり、ビッグマック２個にフライドポテトとジュースなどのソフトドリンクという、あまり体に良くない昼食を食べ続けていたのです。マクドナルドが特に体によくないっていうわけではなく、僕や僕の友達は、いろいろなファーストフード店に、多い時には、週３・４日も通っていましたから体にいいわけないですよね。

大学に入ってからは少し健康を気にするようになりましたが、ちゃんとした食事を心がけようと思うときは、たいてい1回の食事の量を少し減らすだけでした。ジムで運動をしたかったのですが、いつも行けない理由見つけていて、結局、高校時代と変わらずあまり運動はせず、大好きなハンバーガーやピザばかり食べる生活を続けていました。しかし、日本に来て働くようになってからやっと健康に気をつけるようになりました。

子どものころ、僕は冷凍の魚しか食べたことがありませんでした。冷凍の魚はまったく味がなく、僕は魚がきらいでした。また、魚のほかに紅茶も嫌いでしたが、日本で数ヶ月暮らしているうちに両方とも好きになりました。アメリカでは、コカコーラなど砂糖をたくさん含んでいるソフトドリンクを飲むのが当たり前で、甘い飲み物ばかりよく飲んでいたのですが、（日本で暮らした後）アメリカに戻ると、「紅茶に砂糖入れる？」と何度も尋ねられるので、そのことに驚くようになったのです。また、アメリカの食事にはたくさん砂糖が使われているので、僕はなるべくそういうものは食べないようにしました。日本の家庭にホームステイしたことで、魚など体にいい食事を取ることができるようになったので、ファーストフードを食べる必要がなくなったのです。たまにホームシックになってファーストフードが恋しくなった時は、マクドナルドに行って、ホッとしたこともありましたが、それは、ほんの数回だけでした。

ここ最近は健康的な食事と運動を実践できているので、とても嬉しいです。今でも週１・２回ファーストフード店で食事をすることはありますが、健康的な食事を取ることにずいぶん慣れたと思います。もしまだ僕がアメリカに住んでいたら、「健康的な生活を送ろう！」とは言いながら、大きなピザを一人で食べていたことでしょう。日本で生活するようになってから、僕の食生活はガラッと変わり、とても健康になったことを実感しています。

Since moving to Japan a few years ago, one of my biggest goals has been to get healthy and eat better. I have made getting healthy a goal of mine for many years and though I tried hard during my time in America, I have found it to be much easier to accomplish this goal living in Japan because of a few major differences between the countries.

When I was a kid, my Mom would cook dinners for us that usually included a lot of frozen foods. Most people in America go food shopping once or twice a month so most of the food is kept frozen so that it will last longer. It is always very surprising to me to go to the supermarket in Japan and see someone buying only a few vegetables since they are going to be using fresh foods in their dinner. Since I have to buy my own food and cook for myself in Japan, it is much easier to stop by the supermarket close to my house and pick up fresh food that I will eat right away. The supermarkets in America are much bigger, but they are also not as close to peoples’ homes so a car is always needed to go and buy the groceries so people usually try to get to the supermarket as few times as possible.

High school was the first time that I had the freedom to buy my own lunches and I usually didn’t choose the healthiest foods. When given the choice between salad or pizza, pizza always won. During my last year of high school, students were able to leave the school grounds and eat anywhere they chose. My friends and I would always go to the local fast food restaurants like McDonalds and Burger King because it was cheap and delicious. It was also a good way to get some free food because of a special charity fundraiser that happened every year. The charity made money by selling special cards that would act like a coupon at many different stores and restaurants and could be used unlimited times for a year. One of these places was McDonalds and their special was a free sandwich of your choice when you bought a lunch meal. My favorite was the Big Mac meal, with another Big Mac. This meant that I was eating two Big Macs, French fries, and a drink. Not a very healthy choice. McDonalds wasn’t the only unhealthy choice I made as my friends and I would usually eat at different fast food restaurants three or four times a week.

I started to think more about my health while I was a university student, but when I tried to eat better it usually meant I just ate a little less. I wanted to go to the gym and start exercising, but I always had a reason not to go and most of my university days were spent eating the usual hamburgers and pizza that I loved. It wasn’t until I came to Japan that I finally started working on getting healthy.

Before coming to Japan, my only experiences eating fish were frozen fish that I ate as a kid. They had no flavor and I did not like them at all. I also never liked tea, but after living a few months in Japan I really started to like both. I used to drink Coca-Cola or other soft drinks with lots of sugar because that is very normal in America. When I went back to visit family in America, it was very surprising how many times I was asked if I wanted sugar in my tea because sugar is added to a lot of food in America and I was trying to stop eating it. Living with a Japanese family helped me get used to eating more fish and healthier foods and I had no need to eat fast food. There were some days when I felt a little homesick and a trip to McDonalds made me feel good, but that only happened a few times.

I have been working very hard the past few months to eat healthy and exercise and I have been much happier because of it. While I still go to fast food restaurants about once or twice a week at the most, I have been much better about making better food choices. If I was still living in America, I would probably still be saying I need to get healthy, but then eat an entire pizza by myself. Living in Japan has really changed my eating habits and I am a much more healthy person because of it.

 

2008年に改訂された学習指導要領の主たるキーワードは、「生きる力（zest of living）」です。この言葉は、約20年前から文科省が初等中等教育で養いたい力として掲げてきました。日本の子ども達に、小学校からzest of livingを育んでほしいと願っているのです。 ’zest’ とは、’the quality of being exciting, interesting and enjoyable’という意味です。すなわち、「何かにわくわくし、関心をもって楽しめる資質」のことです。生きる力を育む第一歩は、何かに熱中し楽しむことです。’zest’ が芽生えれば、生きる力の源である主体性（アイデンティティー）も育まれます。日本の初等中等教育における国際教育では、この主体性を初めとして、自己決定・行動力や共生の心（思いやり）から成る国際コミュニケーション力（資質・能力）を育むことを目標としています。

　DOLPHIN ENGLISH は、英語によるコミュニケーション活動を通して、この「アイデンティティー確立のための積極性」や「自他を認める共生の心」等を養いながら、最終的には世界をつなぐ大海原を自由に楽しく泳ぎまわる賢くて愛くるしいイルカのように、世界にはばたき駆けめぐる子どもたちを育成するための国際・英語教育カリキュラムです。本教材は、世界に向けて自信をもって自分を表現し、世界の人々を理解できる広い視野をもつ人間に育ってほしいという願いを込めて開発されました。

「幼児コース」では、右脳の発達が盛んな幼児の興味・関心、身体能力の特徴を生かした教育内容で、楽しく遊びながら英語によるコミュニケーションの資質・能力の素地を養うことを目標としています。例えば、誰もが熱中する絵本の読み聞かせ活動では、わくわくするようなオリジナル教材 Treasure Hunt や外国の絵本を用いて、幼児一人ひとりの「感じる心や想像する力」を培います。また、右脳から左脳の発達が盛んになる「小学生コース」では、友達や先生と自分の気持ちや考えを積極的に伝え合う楽しいコミュニケーション活動を通して、英語力だけでなく国際コミュニケーションには不可欠な「自己決定・行動力」や「相手を思いやるソーシャル・スキル」を養います。

DOLPHIN ENGLISHの年齢発達に応じた国際・英語教育カリキュラムで、「生きる力」につながる国際コミュニケーションの素地と英語によるコミュニケーションの基礎力を養い、世界にはばたくお子さんを育てましょう！

渡邉寛治（わたなべ　かんじ） 文京学院大学・同大学院教授、文科省国立教育政策研究所名誉所員。1992年の小学校英語活動の実験開始当初より、国立教育研究所外国語教育研究室長として国の教育政策を推進。これまで全国の多くの教育委員会・教育センターの研究・研修の指導、並びに600校以上の公立小学校における英語活動のカリキュラム開発と学校教育研究の在り方の指導に当たる。新学習指導要領「外国語活動」の源泉ともいうべき文科省『小学校英語活動実践の手引』（200１）の作成では、副座長を務めるとともに第４章（カリキュラム）を執筆。趣味は、テニス、スキー、水泳、ダンス、音楽鑑賞。

2009年7月11日午前7時40分頃、Sprain Parkwayを時速100キロで走っている最中にSakura Maya Stramが車の後部座席で産声をあげました。
車を路肩に停める余裕なんて全くなかったのです。
彼女は僕と妻のKaoriに一生忘れられない興奮の瞬間を与えてくれました。
つい２、３日前に起きた出来事にも関わらず、なんだかはっきり覚えていない気もしますが、これは本当にあったことなんです。
長男のNoahは、ママのお腹の中から外の世界へ出て行っても大丈夫かどうか、慎重に確かめてでもいるかのように、１３時間もかけて産まれてきました。
それで僕たち夫婦は、出産には時間がかかるものという印象を持っていたため、今回もまだまだ時間に余裕があると思っていたのでした。「病院に着くまで待って！」とKaoriが最後の最後まで願ったにも関わらず、陣痛が始まってから3時間でSakuraは産まれました。
そしてママがSakuraを強く抱きしめると、彼女は産声をあげたのです。
その瞬間、僕達の不安は一気に吹き飛び、Sakuraが僕たちを大変な出産から守ってくれたのだと気が付きました。
病院は、自分の産まれるべき場所ではないと彼女はわかっていたのかもしれませんね。
Sleepy Hollowという町のPhelps Memorial病院に着くと、僕たちは救急救命室でロックスターのように扱われました。
なんとそこで僕はSakuraのへその緒を切らせてもらったのです。
その後、分娩室はあの時、全て満室だったと知らされ、Sakuraが自分の初めての誕生日パーティーにいち早く到着しようとしたその決断を誇りに思いました。
前の晩に日本から来たおじいちゃんおばあちゃん達でさえもお祝いに参加できたのですからね。

On July 11th 2009, around 7:40 am, going a speedy 65mph on the Sprain Parkway, Sakura Maya Stram came out in the back seat of our car before I even had the chance to pull off the road. 
She gave Kaori and me an exciting moment that we will never forget, and at the same time seems like a blur even though it just happened a few days ago. 
Noah took about 13 hours to work his way out, cautiously checking to make sure it was safe to come out. 
This gave us the false impression that we had plenty of time. 
It was 3 hours since Kaori's first contractions when Sakura popped out, despite a last minute plea by Kaori to wait until we got to the hospital.
 And once Kaori held Sakura against her and Sakura let out a few cries, our anxiousness was gone and we realized that she had just saved us all a lot of hard work.
 She must have known that the hospital was not the right place to be born.
Once we did finally get to Phelps Memorial in Sleepy Hollow we were treated like rockstars in the ER. 
I had the honor to cut her cord and then we were told that all the birthing rooms were in fact occupied and so we were extra proud of Sakura's decision to arrive early to her own first birthday party.
 Even her grandparents from Japan, who had arrived the night before, could join in the celebration.

大の野球好きとして、僕は今年のWBCをとても楽しみにしていました。前回のWBCではかなり早い段階でアメリカが敗退してしまったので、今回はどのような結果を出してくれるのか、多くのアメリカ人の関心は高まっていました。アメリカは前回よりいい試合をしたと思いますが、やはり日本は強豪チームでしたね。

アメリカチームの大きな問題は、プロ野球チームが優秀な選手を国際試合に参加させないことです。WBCの時もそうでしたが、参加を望んでいた選手はたくさんいたのにも関わらず、彼らは参加しませんでした。それはチーム側が、選手に参加しないよう指示しているからなのです。日本や韓国は、オリンピックやWBCに優秀な選手を選抜して送り出しますが、アメリカのメジャーリーグのチームは、国際試合中に選手が怪我をしたり、シーズン開幕前に疲れてしまっては困ると心配しているのです。

今年のWBCの試合は観戦しようと思っていたのですが、アメリカで試合が行われていたため、時差の関係で、僕が寝ている間に試合が終わってしまうことが多く、ほとんどの試合結果はニュースで見ることになってしまいました。僕は日本人選手の名前は、あまり知りませんが、日本チームの試合だけ、何試合かテレビで見ることが出来ました。

アメリカ人は日本の野球にとても良い印象を持っています。そしてたくさんの人がダルビッシュ有選手のような実力のある選手に注目し始めています。いつかメジャーリーグで大きな戦力になると思っているからでしょう。しかしこのようにメジャーリーグが日本から優秀な選手を簡単に引き抜いていってしまうことについては、多くの議論があります。アメリカのチームは他のチームよりも多くの資金があるから、良い選手を簡単に引き抜くことができるというのは不公平だと僕も思います。自分の国の優秀な選手を手放して喜ぶ人はいませんよね。

トーナメント中、日本がどのような試合をするかを見ていましたが、僕は、決勝戦では韓国を応援してしました。僕は日本が大好きですし、日本人にはスポーツ好きな人が多くて嬉しいのですが、決勝では、日本が負ければいいのにとも思ってしまいました。それはなぜかと言うと、これから僕が日本人に「野球が好きなんだ。」と話す度に、日本人は必ず今回のWBCでの日本の活躍について話してきそうだからです。でもどうやら次回のWBCまで僕は我慢するしかなさそうですね。

 As a big fan of watching baseball, I was really looking forward to this year’s World Baseball Classic. Being from America, many people at home were very interested in knowing how the American team would do this time after losing very early in the last WBC. Most Americans I heard from thought the team would do better, but that Japan was still very strong. With the WBC over now, and Japan winning once again, I was happy to see the US do much better this time, though it would have been nice to see them win.

A big problem for any American team in world tournaments is that the professional teams don’t usually want to send their best players. This was especially true for the WBC as there were many players who wanted to join, but didn’t because their Major League team asked them not to. While teams in Japan and Korea are more than eager to show their best players in the Olympics and WBC, the American teams are often afraid that they will get hurt or that they will be too tired when the season starts. That is a big reason why the event was talked about a lot in the news in America, though it would have been much bigger had it included more of the best players from across the country.

While I tried to watch many of the games during this years WBC, I usually just read the news stories after the game because they were played in America while I was sleeping. I was able to watch a few of the Japanese games on television, though I only knew a few of the players’ names. Japanese baseball has a very good image in America and many people have started to watch the big players, like Yu Darvish, because they think that they might help their Major League team in the future. Because of this, there have been strong arguments for making it difficult for Major League teams to take players away from Japanese teams. I agree with these arguments because it is often unfair that some of the American teams have a lot more money to spend and no one wants the best players to leave a country’s professional league.

Though I was watching to see how Japan was doing during the tournament, I have to admit that I was cheering more for South Korea during the final game. I really like being in Japan and have a great appreciation for how much Japanese people love the sport, but I was hoping that Japan wouldn’t win because I am worried that until the next WBC, every time I tell someone in Japan that I like baseball, they will always want to talk about how well Japan did. But I guess there is nothing I can do about that until the next World Baseball Classic.
